The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness

I’m writing this review in 2026, thirteen years after I first read this book. I think back to how this was assigned through a class in college (maybe sociology, I can’t remember). Most terms I sold my books back, but I’ve carried this one with me since then.

It’s not too late to read nonfiction books on race. Take your time. Listen to the audiobook if that’s more your thing. It’s SUCH an accessible approach to understanding how the justice system operates with systemic inequality. The research stands today.
